Outré energy

Shoreditch is a byword for the glacially-cool. Artists and media folk do their thing here, carousing and creating in clubs, galleries and studios, all set in the most stupendous post-industrial architecture to be found in the city. Hoffman Square recalls those exhibition spaces, its spectacular artwork sitting under soaring ceilings, and flooded with light. When you leave your artist’s studio, you’ll be in the midst of the buzziest creative scene in London, yet with Islington and the City just a walk away.

Artist in residence

Originally from Mexico, your artist host is skilled in painting, photography, and sculpture. You’ll spot his impressive collection of works scattered about Hoffman Square, many of which are by his own talented hand.

Inner vision

Skip up the external staircase to the sitting room, where your first inclination will be to stand and stare, rather than sit. When you’re not craning your neck at the high raftered ceiling, you’ll be beaming at the wall-propped artwork, goggling at the stunning sculpture sofa, or cocking an appreciative eye at the play of light upon the surfaces. The kitchen is smart and well kitted out, so once you’ve brewed a hot coffee, go explore the minimalist double bedroom where light floods through original windows onto more vibrant artwork. Then, check out the funky bathroom before heading upstairs.

A mezzanine study looks down upon the sitting room, where you’ve a desk, deep leather sofa, and plenty of art books. The master bedroom is another minimalist treat, with walls of the brightest white, and skylights shining down from a pitched roof. Next door’s shower room is sparklingly modern, and packed with our White Company toiletries.

Creative camp

Shoreditch is the stomping ground for London’s creatives, brimming with bars, clubs, and eateries of the utmost coolness. Nose around a pop-up shop, catch some contemporary art at the famous White Cube, or drop by the Geffrye Museum for a window into the drawing rooms of Londoners in times past. For dinner, take your appetite to Brick Lane and the cornucopia of curry houses, or head the other way for the eclectic restaurants of Islington. Should you wish to zoom into town, the tube from Old Street to Oxford Circus takes fifteen minutes.
