Polished performance

Refined, but never, ever stuffy, Kensington is as exquisitely warm as a pair of cashmere of gloves. Slip in to an altogether more luxurious existence, of fine china, rare artwork and beautiful furniture. Even the pooches that perambulate Hyde Park seem somewhat rarefied, their coats glossy with wellbeing and privilege.

And up on the second floor of a red brick Victorian mansion block, you’ll find Gloucester Walk stylish and elegant. Golden sunshine illuminates pretty touches at every turn, this is very much a home for those who enjoy the finer things in life.

That’s the way to do it

Your hostess was born in Australia, and came to London twenty-one years ago. She recently retired from publishing lifestyle books, and now she and her husband are practising as they have preached, and enjoying all the good things the world has to offer.

Embroidering the truth

Your hostess has a particular fondness for tapestrying cushions, so be sure to look out for some of her best work scattered around Gloucester Walk. There’s a cultivated air to the plush sitting room, here, pale couches sit atop a richly creamy carpet, while the intricate original fireplace and beautiful antique furniture lend the space a sense of opulent maturity. There’s a view down to the communal garden from the dining table, and while the kitchen next door may be petite, it holds everything you need for a delightful dinner.

The aqua mosaic bathroom is bright and modern, and even has a balcony from which you can gaze down into the street below. Aspiring novelists will appreciate the bedroom’s large desk, while those who prefer reading to writing might prefer to select a volume from the sitting room’s loaded shelves, and to leaf through its pages while enswathed in our crisp white bed linen.

A turn for the better

Kensington Gardens is just moments from your front door, so whether you’re a keen jogger or you just want to feed the squirrels, we recommend that you spend time in one of the city’s loveliest parks. Kensington High Street is within easy sauntering distance, here, you’ll find all manner of glorious shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants, as well as the largest Whole Foods in Europe. And if it’s the West End you’re after, well, you can walk across Hyde Park, hail a cab, or jump on the tube. You’ll be there in around fifteen minutes.
